Do I have to book a beach wedding in Dunsborough?

Yes, all beach weddings in the Dunsborough, Eagle Bay and Bunker Bay areas must be booked with the Busselton Shire to ensure a problem-free event.

Don’t stress though — not only is it very easy to book your preferred beach, it’s cheap too!

It is the responsibility of the couple to book their beach. You’re generally allocated a 2-hour block which is enough time to “bump in” and “bump out”.

Booking a beach ensures that you don’t rock up on your Big Day to find another wedding party already in progress on the exact spot you dreamed of saying “I do.” It also means the Shire knows not to schedule a Nippers carnival at your spot, and to turn the sprinklers off, and so on.

As reviewed in this article, my favourite beaches in Dunsborough include:

  • Meelup Beach
  • Castle Rock
  • A secret location just a short hike from the beach car park

I also love the beach at Old Dunsborough — it is very quiet, sheltered, and picturesque.

The beach at Bunker Bay is also exquisite — the blue of the water never fails to take my breath away. It is, however, open to the elements so not always suitable for a ceremony in the middle of the day (when it is hottest). Generally, morning weddings are best here.
