Some fabulous Margaret River winery wedding venues

Beauty, elegance and kudos: Yes, it’s a winery wedding

Hankering for a winery wedding? Choose the Margaret River wine region, and you’re at the right place!

The Margaret River wine region, located three hours south of Perth, Western Australia, is renowned around the world for its stunning surf and snorkel beaches, sweeping parks and spectacular forests, fabulous food producers and above all, premium wine.

There are more wineries in the region than can be visited in a week. And the good news is, many of them are geared towards hosting the most amazing, memorable, romantic winery wedding you can dream of.

There are small ones, grand ones, speccy ones, family-owned ones, themed ones, old ones, new ones, conglomerate ones and boutique ones. Whatever your style, you’re bound to find a winery that you immediately fall in love with.

Here is a review of just some of the wineries where I’ve conducted wedding ceremonies in the last couple of years.

Leeuwin Estate. Famous for its annual black-and-white-tie concert starring international superstars, Leeuwin Estate has a private lawned area sandwiched between the vines and the bush. There is a purpose-built area for the ceremony that fits up to 100 guests comfortably.

Voyager Estate. The Cape Dutch style cellar door at Voyager presides over the expansive manicured lawns and gardens it occupies. There are small rose garden areas for intimate weddings, or larger lawned areas for the larger party. Couples can choose from either location for their ceremony. They only take bookings for around 8 weddings per year, so get in early.

Clairault Wines. Clairault became even more popular when it was host to the Channel Ten TV series Masterchef in 2011. Savvy couples choose Clairault for its natural lawned “stage” area where the bridal party can be seen by all their guests. Weddings are conducted after hours, where guests  can party on in the restaurant on site.

Fermoy Estate. No-one would ever know, but behind the charming pink Tuscany-style cellar door, there’s a delightful lawn under shady trees rolling down to a large lake. This venue is perfect for the “picnic” wedding as guests enjoy a loooong afternoon of food, wine and congratulatory chit chat. There’s also a cottage and a lakehouse available for hire.

Black Brewing Co. A relative newcomer to town, this is a winery / brewery in one place, meaning the beer lovers are happy too! There are various spots where you can hold your ceremony, but most couples choose to marry on the island in the middle of the rain-fed lake. Even on the island you have choice – one bride used the footpath as her aisle (per the pic below), or for milder weather conditions, you can stand on the wooden deck jutting over the lake while your guests mingle on the lawn.
