Holy awesomesauce, I am a business awards winner!
On the evening of 21 June 2014, over 300 people gathered at the Lighthouse Beach Resort in Bunbury to eat, drink and soak up the fabulous vibes of all the doers and achievers.
To be honest, I was in awe of the combined talent in that room, and even felt slightly intimidated that my little business looked like a baby in comparison to some others in the running for Awards.
So it was all a bit of a surprise and a blur when my name was announced as the winner of the “Services Industry Award”…
Life went into slow-motion… I folded my serviette, stood up, managed not to trip onto the stage, shook hands, received my Award, posed for photos, sat down… Then I think I breathed for the first time since hearing my name announced.
Holy awesomesauce!
Little solo operator me, a Marriage Celebrant up against some crazy good businesses employing lots of staff and turning over six-figures…
Wow!
The South West Small Business Awards is coordinated by the Small Business Centre Bunbury-Wellington, and is open to businesses throughout the South West of Western Australia.
My entry took me three days to write, and longer to incorporate suggestions by business mentors, but it was a rewarding process.
Writing the Awards entry made me think really hard about my business, my direction, and even my mission statement. This is what I came up with:
I am a full-time Marriage Celebrant offering modern, meaningful and memorable ceremonies in the Margaret River region to warm, light-hearted and grateful couples.
I’m really comfortable that this describes me (and what I do) to a tee, and I definitely attract couples who are warm, light-hearted and grateful.
In return, I am grateful for them also! They really enrich my life on a personal level, and make my professional life wonderful.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
In gratitude,
Anita Revel (pictured below with Beth Ferguson, another small business owner and Vice President of the Bunbury Chamber of Commerce and Industries).
