Lucky days to get married? You betcha!
Traditionally couples choose to get married on a Saturday. But what if you wanted to add extra luck to your marriage by choosing a lucky days to get married? I googled the heck out of this question, and it appears there’s no actual consensus on how each day brings luck to a marriage. So, I made up a ditty ….
Lucky Days to Get Married…
(a ditty by Anita Revel, who couldn’t find a definitive guide to lucky days to get married, so made one up)…
Marry on Monday, marry for health,
Marry on Tuesday, marry for wealth.
Marry on Wednesday, a lifetime of luck.
Marry on Thursday, forever loyal,
Marry on Friday, feel like a royal.
Marry on Saturday, for respect and honour,
Marry on Sunday, love grows stronger.
From experience, and via my couples’ stories, they choose their day to marry based on practicality… The Irish, for example, like to have their wedding on a Friday as a way of reducing the number of guests who can come (otherwise the whole village would turn up, making it a 400-person guest list!)
Margaret River, being a destination wedding region, has the majority of its weddings on Saturdays. We know this because of all the wedding cars we see driving around the region, and the arbors and chairs set up at nearly every winery along Caves Road.
But Fridays are becoming as popular at Saturdays, for the Perth crowd who decide to make a long weekend of their nuptials. Everyone travels down south on the Thursday, have a busy afternoon of setting up, a chilled out organic rehearsal and rehearsal dinner that night, then the big shebang on the Friday followed by a weekend of wine tours and other group activities. It means their wedding isn’t a one-day thing. It’s a whole weekend celebration thing. And it’s most excellent! Being surrounded by family and friends for four-days of celebration is surely good luck?!?
As for the smaller weddings of immediate family, and the elopements, it doesn’t matter what day the wedding is! Couples travel from all over the world to holiday in the region and marry while they’re here. What does it matter which day they marry? There is no weekend when you’re traveling — every day is a great day to explore and enjoy!
One of the advantages of choosing a mid-week day to marry, is that (in theory) you get to pick and choose the cream of the professional crop, and sometimes, get a discount as an additional bonus! That is double good luck for the couple! Not only can you be surrounded by the best wedding professionals in the region, you have their full attention too — being mid-week, it is unlikely they’ll be working any other weddings on the same day as yours.
What day did you get married? And why? I’d love to hear if choosing a specific day played a role in your wedding planning.
Shine on,
Anita
