This wedding blessing is a beautiful tribute to friendship between a couple in love.
It is also a perfect blessing to be read by a mutual friend during the ceremony.
Marriage is a Promise
~ a wedding blessing celebrating friendship
We are here today to witness an allegiance between two people in love – people who started as friends and let their friendship deepen and grow.
And when their friendship reached a depth and breadth that enveloped them wholly, they knew they were ready for marriage.
Marriage is a promise between like-minded souls to become even better friends with the passing of each year.
True friends weather the storms together. They listen, learn and laugh together. They trust each other with their inner most secrets and wishes. They respect and encourage each other’s individuality. They prop their mate up when they’re down. And, they always see the good in each other even when they’re feeling bad.
Standing before us now are two such friends.
But as with all friendships, there are times of “better and worse, richer and poorer, and sickness and health.”
(Bride) and (Groom) have proven time and time again, that as friends, they have enjoyed the better times and supported each other through the worse times.
They know when to offer support, and when to ask for it. When to listen, and when to give advice. When to speak from the heart, and when to hold hands and simply be there.
It is this fortitude, and their willingness to remain friends, that has made their relationship strong enough, and deep enough, to be here today.
And now it is time for me to say: Enjoy your wedding day, dear friends!
This is the day you will stand by the side of your love and offer your lifelong promise of love, trust and faithfulness.
In return, you will be offered the same, and the both of you will embark on the biggest adventure of your lives: to live the rest of your days as husband and wife.
I wish you well on your journey together!
